EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Initially (2005) the AFRICA TRADE CENTRE, Africa's first fully fledged trading platform, a project with a mandate to enhance and facilitate trade throughout Africa, was to be presented in a virtual format (Website) until the move into the new proposed AFRICA TRADE CENTRE complex.

Here businesspeople from all over the continent and the world would have access to information, facilities, expertise and infrastructure required to trade with counterparts from across the continent.

It was then envisaged that the AFRICA TRADE CENTRE COMPLEX - a 17-story building in Pretoria (Tshwane). South Africa - would accommodate most of the world's foreign trade attachés serving Africa and would also provide facilities for financial and supply chain service providers. A one-stop 'trade shop' geared to facilitate trade throughout Africa and the rest of the world.

However, this was not to be and in September 2008 it was decided to, as mandated in 2006:

"Take Trade to the People"
